This Mitsubishi G4M "Betty" bomber lies in 70 feet of water. We jumped in at the stern and swam under the Odyssey to the bow line, and then descended. Visibility in the top 20 feet was abysmal, but below that improved to about 60 feet. With the shallow depth and bright sunlight allowing me to take pictures without a flash, this was more than adequate for photographing the wreckage.
The "Betty," a land plane, did not survive the water "landing" at all well. Both engines separated from the wings, and they lie about 110 feet from the fuselage and wings. The nose and cockpit are badly wrecked.
I did my safety stop on the bow line, where visibility was bad enough that I could barely see the Odyssey.
