Heian Maru

Dive Day 6

At 510 feet, the submarine tender Heian Maru is one of the largest ships in the lagoon. She lies on her port side in 115 feet of water. The two forward holds are open and contain shells and torpedoes. Periscopes and china lie along the open companionway.

On the first dive, I photographed the bow markings and bow telegraph, then went into hold #1 to photograph the torpedoes. I continued down the starboard side companionway past the periscopes, photographing sea life along the way. After lunch, I made a second dive to the stern, and photographed the propeller. That was the last dive of the trip, since we needed to pack and prepare to head back to the anchorage.
