Technical Details

I acquired this ascender from John E. Weinel, Inc. in 1990. I acquired another in 2017 as part of Bob Thrun's collection.

This ascender is 108 mm. tall, 76 mm. wide, 29 mm. thick, and weighs 138 g. The rope channel is 15 mm. wide. The cam radius increases from 36 to 51 mm. over an angle of 37°, giving a 28° cam angle. The tooth pattern is (4.3)^2(2)(2S2)^2(1S1)(2.3)^2(2).

There are no markings on this ascender.

Comments

This is a copy of the Petzl Basic. The cam teeth are very well made, and the mud hole is larger than Petzl's. The shell is stamped with reinforcing ribs. This is probably an adequate ascender, but I still prefer the quality of the original.
